VIRTUAL SHADOWING

Welcome to the virtual shadowing program! We will be hosting virtual shadowing sessions every week. We offer insight into various medical specialties such as Anesthesiology, Spinal Surgery, OB/GYN, and so much more! These sessions are free for everyone to attend. Registration links will be changing after each session. Members who participate will be credited 1 virtual shadowing hour per session on behalf of The Premed Scene as long as the quiz for that session is passed with a score of 60% or higher in the first attempt. It is required to subscribe to The Premed Scene to become a member and be eligible for the virtual shadowing hours. This program has been discontinued, if you would like to view any of these sessions, please go to our YouTube channel, or click the YouTube banner next to the speaker's information.

Dr. David Janiczek is the founder and CEO of Get Admitted MD, a premed consulting company, and is a midwest native. He attended the University of Iowa for both his undergraduate degree in Human Physiology and the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine for his MD, one of the top 30 medical schools in the country.  He is currently completing his residency training at the University of Illinois-Chicago Department of Anesthesiology. Dr. Janiczek has also served on medical school admissions committees. He is also a vital part of The Premed Scene's operations helping oversee programs and opportunities and serves as the Team Advisor for The Premed Scene.

Thomas M. Scalea, MD, FACS

Dr. Thomas Scalea is The Honorable Francis X. Kelly Distinguished Professor in Trauma and is globally recognized for his pioneer in leadership and advancing the field of shock and injury care. As Physician-in-Chief of the University of Maryland Medical Center's R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, he heads the only freestanding trauma center in the world, a center caring for over 8,000 critically injured patients annually with a 96% survival rate. Dr. Scalea performs over 600 operative cases yearly while serving as a funded prolific investigator and System Chief for Critical Care Services and the University of Maryland School of Medicine in addition to his administrative duties.

Joshua Cools

Joshua Cools is a flight paramedic for Life Flight, a division of Memorial Hermann's Red Duke Trauma Institute. Memorial Hermann Life Flight is a critical care air medical transport service based in Houston, Texas. They serve the community within a 150-mile radius of the Texas Medical Center with helicopters and worldwide using fixed-wing transport. Life Flight is the first air medical ambulance in Texas; second in the United States. Their educational programs instrumental in training NASA astronauts in case of possible clinical emergencies. In addition to his medical role, Joshua Cools serves as an administrator as the Director of Business Development for the Memorial Hermann Health System.

Dr. Robert Wachter is Professor and Chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, ranked the best internal medicine department in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. He coined the term “hospitalist” in 1996 and is often considered the “father” of the hospitalist field, the fastest-growing medical specialty in the United States. Dr. David Janiczek is a fellow in cardiothoracic anesthesiology at the world-famous Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, Louisiana. Dr. Janiczek finished his residency in anesthesiology at the University of Illinois-Chicago, one of the top 30 medical schools in the country, in June 2021 where he served as one of the Chief Residents for the final year. Prior to residency, he was born and raised in Iowa, and attended the University of Iowa for his undergraduate education before obtaining his MD from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine in 2017. In addition to his clinical roles, Dr. Janiczek is the Founder and CEO of Get Admitted MD and the Team Advisor of The Premed Scene, and has served on a medical school admissions.

Dr. Suchismita (Tia) Paul is a board-certified dermatologist practicing in Orange County, California. Her clinical expertise includes surgical and cosmetic dermatology. Raymond L. Fowler, MD

Dr. Raymond Fowler is the director of the widely-popular Pre-Health Virtual Shadowing program and Professor of Emergency Medicine and Chief of Emergency Medical Services at UT Southwestern. Dr. Fowler has been involved in EMS as a leading educator, author, medical director, and political advocate for almost four decades, being widely regarded as an outstanding lecturer and public leader in the field of EMS. He was a founding member of the National Association of EMS Physicians and served as the second elected President. In addition, he served as the President of Georgia College of Emergency Physicians and as a perennial member of the State of Georgia EMS Advisory Council.

Michael L. Kueht II, MD

Dr. Michael Kueht is an Assistant Professor of Transplant Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, Texas. He earned his Doctor of Medicine at UTMB and completed internship and residency in general surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Upon completing his residency, Dr. Kueht completed an abdominal transplantation fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine. He has been involved with medical research for over a decade and has authored over 45 articles in peer-reviewed journals. Raman K. Malhotra, MD

Dr. Raman Malhotra is an Associate Professor of Neurology and Program Director of the Sleep Medicine Fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He is also the current President of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the leading professional society in the medical subspecialty of sleep medicine. In this role, Dr. Malhotra leads an organization that has a combined membership of 11,000 accredited member sleep centers and individual members, including physicians, scientists, and other health care professionals who provide care for patients with sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea and chronic insomnia.

Dr. Sogol Pahlavan is a pediatrician and Chief Operating Officer of ABC Pediatric Clinic in Houston, Texas. She is also a physician for Texas Children's Hospital and Memorial Hermann. Dr. Pahlavan graduated from Texas A&M University with a BA in Biology, finished medical school at Baylor College Medicine, and completed residency in general pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine, training at Texas Children's Hospital and Ben Taub General Hospital. Shortly after residency, she and her sister established ABC Pediatric Clinic. In addition to her clinical and entrepreneurship roles, Dr. Pahlavan is a Certified Mindfulness Physician Coach and host of the podcast Mindful Living with Dr. Sogol.

A Perelman School of Medicine graduate and a nationally-recognized leader in the specialty, Wender was the Chair of Family and Community Medicine at Jefferson for 12 years and served as the first-ever Chief Cancer Control Officer for the American Cancer Society. At Jefferson, Dr. Wender was responsible for substantial service line growth including the creation of the Division of Geriatric Medicine and a Palliative Care program. His work has led to methods that address social determinants of health and health equity.

Prior to moving to the west coast, Joanne served as the Director of Admissions at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra University where she coordinated interview days, trained the admissions committee, and ran committee meetings.

Dr. Lacey is a board-certified gastroenterologist and a Master Financial Coach through Ramsey Solutions. In this financial role, he helped his first 300 coaching clients pay off over $1.2 million of debt in just 2 months. Dr. Lacey is also the founder and CEO of The Scope of Practice, in which he helps mentor health care professionals on how to run a practice and manage finances. As well, after his fellowship, Dr. Lacey helped created a Financial Discipleship Ministry at his church and developed a personal finance curriculum for his hospital.

Dr. Jordan Frey AKA The Prudent Plastic Surgeon is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon in the Center for Cancer Care, Department of Head and Neck Surgery, and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at ECMC in Buffalo, New York. Dr. Frey completed his plastic and reconstructive surgery residency and microsurgery fellowship in the Hansjörg Wyss Department of Plastic Surgery at NYU Langone Health and is one of the few plastic surgeons in the country who is trained to perform robotic-assisted microsurgical breast reconstruction. He is also an expert in financial management for healthcare professionals and is the creator of the blog The Prudent Plastic Surgeon sharing his journey to financial well-being.

Dr. Hamilton helps aspiring and early career doctors succeed in surgically-oriented and traditionally male-dominated fields by pulling back the curtain on what it looks like to be a woman and parent in medicine. Ultimately, she strives to be an example of what is possible for those who would follow in her footsteps.

Dr. Irobunda practiced for four years as an active duty Army OB/GYN, and now works for NYC Health and Hospitals. She is a member of Peloton's Health and Wellness Advisory Committee, HealtheVoices HCP Advisor for Johnson & Johnson, Expert Contributor for MindBodyGreen, and serves as a women's health advocate and an ambassador of wellness throughout the world. Dr. Irobunda attended the University of Pennsylvania for her bachelor's degree, Albert Einstein College of Medicine for her medical degree, and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the National Capital Consortium.
